Reasons to select MDM, as opposed to branch operations representing a specific manufacturer (i.e. Canon, Ricoh, Xerox, Konica, Minolta):

 1)     Manufacturers' branches are focused on unit production & as a result have larger machine
populations with a high density of analog unit proliferation.  These units correspondingly have a higher
failure rate & are sold  throughout the Metropolitan area.  Advantage...MDM

2)    At MDM, Service Dispatch is not inundated with service requests, since the machine population is selectively controlled & geographically restrained to Manhattan only, unlike branches which service the entire Metropolitan area.  Advantage...MDM

3)     Branches cannot control the failure rates of machines already sold, while MDM is more selective of testing product for failure rates before exposing the client base to products.  High failure rates increase service call request volumes, which significantly impact service responsiveness (i.e. time to respond to calls and time for service representatives to repair down machines).  Advantage...MDM.

4)     Manufacturer’s branch offices sell all the machines in their respective product line, resulting in complex support issues regarding both parts inventory management & service personnel technical training.  Advantage...MDM.

a)               A manufacturer’s product line may host as many as 30 different copier products
in any given year, resulting    in significant product dispersion & complex cross
          training issues for service personnel.

i.)              Greater dispersion of product by branches creates a diluted knowledge base of the service personnel.
The more products a service person has to learn, the less specialized he/she is in diagnosing varieties of problems, especially a complex electrical problem.  Advantage...MDM.

ii.)             Schematics (electrical diagrams) vary from model to model resulting in parts inventory management problems, as well as diagnosing & troubleshooting problems for inexperienced service personnel- Advantage...MDM.

5)     Since normal employee attrition is a component of every business, training replacement or new service personnel is a much more difficult task for manufacturer’s branch operations, as opposed to MDM’s philosophical approach of selectively choosing products. Advantage...MDM.

6)    Since MDM hosts multiple manufacturers, we are able to selectively choose only the best product(s) within manufacturer’s lines (digital only) that best suit(s) the specific application(s) of the client. More importantly, a manufacturer’s branch operation is not able to cross the boundaries into another manufacturer’s product line, when a client indicates they are dissatisfied with a particular brand or model. Since technology is ever changing, during any term Lease Agreement, MDM is able to upgrade to the best class of product model available, in the product category that best suits the customer, regardless of manufacturer.  Major Advantage...MDM
