Fax machines become
clients of POPscan aware servers within an organization using the PBX
of analog phone lines as the access method to IP digital networks.

When a user at a fax machine enters the internal phone number via the
company’s PBX phone system, the fax being sent will be directed to
the POPscan server fax modem. The users
also enter routing information into the fax machine after the dialing
a number by pressing the sub-address button on the POPfax
aware fax machine. The routing information will contain a POP-ID # of
the sender and the routing address of the recipient . The POPscan aware server will decode the sub
address and route accordingly to either recipients e-mail, printer, or
fax machine. Once delivered, the confirmation of the delivery will
appear in their e-mail box.
